Build on your experience from the DEVO Team with the JET Team

After a minimum of two years on the DEVO Team, it’s time to dive deeper into your stand up paddle experience with the JET Team. During JET training, we will take our paddle skills to the next level by analyzing technique more seriously, challenging ourselves to new paddling conditions, longer paddles, and exploring the racing world of Stand UP Paddling. We will work on downwind paddling and JET Team members will have the opportunity to paddle on a Team Downwinder.

Who Can Participate?

Youth between 12-18 years old. You must have participated on the DEVO Team for a minimum of 2 years, or gotten approval to move up to JET by one of our coaches. JET Team is available in both Spanish and English. All paddlers are expected to arrive on-time with a positive attitude eager for the morning ahead.

When and Where?

JET Team is a summer-long program. Training takes place at Wylde Wind & Water located at the Hood River Event Site. Training is biweekly on Tuesday’s and Thursday’s between July 2 - August 8, 2024 from 7am-8:30am. We will begin promptly at 7am, so we suggest arriving early to prepare your equipment, even if you are using ours.

Cost

The cost of the JET Team is $250.00usd if you have your own equipment and $400.00usd to use our equipment for the training sessions. Equipment includes: High-end youth specific race SUP board, paddle, fin, leash, and PFD (Personal Flotation Device). Team members are highly recommended to bring their own PFD. A Type III Coast Guard approved wearable life jacket is required. Waist belts will not be accepted. Scholarships are available if you require financial assistance to participate. Registration fees from the Wylde Wind & Water Performance Programs help fund the Wylde Wind & Water Free Community Programs.

Who are your coaches?

JET Team is led by 3x SUP World Champion and Wylde Wind & Water founder, Fiona Wylde! Fiona is accompanied by local legendary waterwomen and watermen, including former JET Team members to create a dynamic, skilled, fun and safe team to coach the Wylde Wind & Water JET Team.

Additional Opportunities

All JET Team members will have the opportunity to race at the prestige Columbia Gorge Paddle Challenge July 19-21, 2024. The entrance fee for the Paddle Challenge is not included in the entrance fee to the JET Team.

History of the JET Team

JET, Junior Elite Team, is a youth Stand Up Paddle Team started in 2011 by legendary Waterman and founder of Big Winds, Steve Gates. In Steve’s honor, his close friend, original JET member, and now 3x SUP World Champion, Fiona Wylde, continues the program after his passing in 2019.
